Another eye-catcher from a recently acquired cache of American Record Corporation dealer materials. This unused window sticker advertised ARC’s release by Billy Costello, the original voice of Popeye.
Costello recorded “I’m Popeye the Sailor Man” (mx. 17393) and “Blow the Man Down” (mx. 17394) in ARC’s New York studio on April 27, 1935. The selections were coupled on Banner 33435, Oriole 3143, and related issues.
If you enjoy records from this era, be sure to check out Recording the ‘Thirties, available from Mainspring Press and many major libraries.
