Superior Records Catalog • April1932

Gennett’s Superior label was headed for extinction when this April 1932 flyer was issued. It was discontinued in June, and surviving Gennett documents show that some of the last issues sold only a few dozen copies. Many of the records listed here are reissues of earlier Gennett-label releases and/or also appeared on the Champion label. Many use artist pseudonyms — the “Chicago Sheiks” are actually Big Bill Broozny & Steele Smith, “Harmonica Jim” is William B. Russell, “Harper & Hall” are John McGhee & Frank Welling, etc. (From the Bill Bryant archive)

  1. I have a few Superior 78′s and looking for any information about them that I can find. Specifically, for The Harlem Blue Knights, Superior, Vocal SU-102, “Jump Jump”, Instrumental SU-108, “Going Jam-Mad” Vocal SU-107, “Susianna’s Got Something”, Vocal SU-105, “My Man, He Thrills Me Ev’ry Day” Vocal SU-104, “Married Man Blues”, Vocal SU-106 “Swing it for Me”.

  2. I had to look in the old label book to see which Superior this was. I think this is the one I don’t have. So many labels to collect so little time! Neil
